FACS Get to Know You About Me

I will have repeat students this year so I thought I better add several new get-to-know-you pages. If you haven't checked it out, it's a great resource to give you a few minutes to gather yourself during the first week as students share a bit about themselves. Find the resource here.

Attendance Questions

Are you using attendance questions? This is my favorite (and fastest way) to build relationships in my classroom. Read more about it here.

Setting School and Home Boundaries

My students start Monday. I always have mixed emotions about going back. I am really good at summer with a more relaxed structure and routines. I do enjoy getting to know new students and teaching life skills students can implement at home that evening! It's only taken half of my career to learn I am becoming more firm in setting boundaries for my own sanity.

This will be my third year not to have school email on my phone. I give it my all when I am at school and I use that as a reminder to give it my all at home. I let my students know this as well.

Last year I made it a point to let students know I would not be grading late assignments at home. It's a strong lesson with natural consequences for 7th and 8th graders when I give them enough time in the classroom to complete work. I will grade the late assignment, but when I have a chance once or twice a week during my plan time.

I encourage you to give it a go for one or both of these boundary-setting ideas. Maybe you have your own boundaries you set? I'd love to know!

Talk soon,

Andrea

Hey there, Reader, This week on the blog, you can read about the kitchen renovation that happened last summer. It was a "Fixer to Fabulous" reveal, but not without some "Love It or List It" moments wondering if it could actually look better AND be finished before students would arrive in August. It's crazy how much can happen in a year, which is why I thought this was the perfect time to write about it. It's almost time for the April ballot. It was the April ballot last year that included a...
